Hi Folks, we're now well under way with Round 3. This is also the time of year where we apply grub control to ensure maximum protection for your lawns. If you're an Ultra Lush and Green customer, this service will be applied automatically. It will also be applied automatically if you signed up for it with any of our other programs. We'll be making these applications through the middle of July, so if you'd like protection from grubs, just let us know! Also, this has been a bad year for disease (fungus). If you see circular brown patches in your otherwise healthy turf, let us check it out for you! We can treat it!

Schedule / Calendar

Fertilizer applications are applied anywhere from one month to six weeks apart.

Crabgrass Control

Our first fertilizer application for all programs is combined with crabgrass control. The time range for the successful application of this important step runs from mid March to the end of April.

Do not worry if I'm not out on your property on the first, second or third nice day in April. I promise I won't forget you. I guarantee I'll be there in time to put this product down properly! I realize that some companies out there are putting their products down in the middle of winter. I start later so it will be much more effective for your lawn.

Grub Control

This is an application that we will typically begin in June and finish by the end July. This is an insecticide that guarantees season long protection from grubs. There are no real predictors as to who will or will not get grubs in any particular year. If you've EVER had them, then you'd be wise to take the grub control application. People ask me regularly whether or not they should take this application. I usually tell them that this service is really a form of lawn care insurance. I'd hate it, and so would you, if you spent good money making the lawn as green, thick and healthy as possible, only to loose portions of it to grubs. It really is a form of Russian roulette for lawns. You may dodge the bullet or you may not. Trust me. The chemical fix to kill active grubs is nearly as expensive as the preventative control we're talking about here. Not to mention how ugly that type of damage can be.

Aerations

Aerations usually begin in late August and will run (or can run) through mid November. Every now and then, particularly when I'm on a new property, I'll suggest aerating in the spring. These property's will usually have compaction issues that call into question whether or not the products I put down during the course of the year will get into the soil to do their jobs. These lawns will benefit enormously from an early aeration.

Spot seeding

Spot seeding begins in late August and continues through the end of September. This time frame is important because it should allow enough time for germination before the lawns go into a dormant state for the winter.

Lime

We also offer a liming service. First, we'd like to do a soil sample to check the ph of the soil your grass is trying to grow in. This is a laboratory analysis that takes away any guess work as to how much to put down. Lawns that have moss issues or grass that just doesn't seem to ever look green or healthy, despite fertilizer applications, may be indicators of a soil acidity problem that can be helped with a course (or several courses) of lime. But we won't guess; we'll know with the soil sample.
